Federal Energy Tax Credits are available for energy efficiency improvements to a primary or secondary residence. Such items as doors, windows, HVAC systems, inuslation and the like can be claimed if such improvements were made from 2006 to 2017 and were not previously claimed. The total credit can not exceed $500. Make sure you have written verification from the manufacturer that their products qualifies for this tax credit along with a sales receipt.

A 30 percent tax credit is still available for both equipment and installation costs (no dollar amount limit) from 2014 to 2017 for the following:

  • Geothermal Heat Pump systems
  • Solar Energy Systems
  • Small Wind Systems (residential)

Information related to purchases made in 2018 will become avaiable as the IRS finalizes future tax incentives. For more information, visit the IRS website
