Friday | December 16, 2022

We have received reports that scammers are calling members pretending to be Central Electric Cooperative (CEC). This article from Dec. 5 will help you be prepared for handling these types of calls.

With the busy holiday season quickly approaching, it makes the next couple of months a popular time for scams. CEC would like to remind members to be aware of utility scams, especially this time of year.

Many consumers became more reliant on technology during the pandemic, which means scammers have changed their tactics. Most scammers have shifted from a door-to-door approach to relying on emails, phone calls and text messages to scam consumers. It is more important than ever to be aware of what you click on and what information you give to others.

CEC wants to help protect our community against utility scams. Please report any potential scams so we can prevent others from falling victim.
