Switch to LED

There are no shortages of LED options for holiday lighting these days. Light-emitting diode (LED) technology is readily available and certainly affordable. There are many reasons to make the switch to LED for your holiday lighting. According to the Department of Energy, LED lighting uses about 70 percent less energy than traditional incandescent lights and, due to their energy-efficient nature, up to 25 LED light strings can be safely connected together.

Use Timers

Limiting the use of holiday lighting to evening hours with manual timers, or connection to smart devices is a great way to keep costs down this season. If you haven't switched to LED lighting, this is an even greater benefit. Set your timers now and forget about it for the rest of the season!

Invest in Smart Power Strips

Use smart power strips to safely plug in several items and easily turn them all off when not in use. Many smart power strips can detect when items are not in use and prevent phantom energy loads. Some can also be connected to smart devices to control your home's holiday lighting from anywhere.

Look for Energy Star

Lastly, the best way to ensure you are buying quality, energy-efficient lighting, and holiday decorations is to look for the Energy Star logo. Products with this certification have been tested and are easily the best option.
